Myanmar: Pyin U Lwin Waterfall

Myanmar: Pwin U Lyin Waterfall

Though only a light hike, the Anisakan Falls outside the hill station of Pyin U Lwin in Myanmar makes for a decent little daytrip with a steep enough grade to get your heart pumping for at least part of the walk.

From town, either catch a ride in the direction of Mandalay (getting off just outside of the village of Anisakan) or catch a motorbike taxi to the trailhead itself. From the trailhead, expect a 30-40 minute walk along an easy-to-follow trail before arriving at the waterfall itself. While there, be sure to check out the very “Indiana Jones” dilapidated bridge crossing the river just downstream from the falls!

(Note: when we visited Myanmar it was still very easy to walk around town and find a decent guesthouse for less than $10 for two people. Rumor has it that with the surge in tourism numbers in the country, though, this is becoming more difficult. If in doubt, check out Agoda for guesthouses from around $20.
